Shinichiro Motohashi is a Professor of Medical Immunology at Chiba University, Japan. He received his M.D. and Ph.D. from Chiba University, where he continued his research as a postdoctoral fellow at the laboratory of Dr. Masaru Taniguchi. He was then appointed as a faculty member in 2005.
Currently, Motohashi and his colleagues focus on the development of NKT cell-mediated immunotherapy for non-small cell lung cancer and head and neck cancer. His team conducts translational research from their basic studies of a-galactosylceramide-pulsed dendritic cells to clinical studies. They are also engaged in a joint project with RIKEN to develop adoptive immunotherapy with induced pluripotent stem cell-derived NKT cells or induced pluripotent stem cell-derived antigen presenting cells.
